Kitchens

How do I manage multiple kitchen locations?

Add each of your locations as its own kitchen, work through its setup checklist, and deactivate or delete a kitchen you no longer use.

On this page

Each physical location you cook from is its own kitchen in Stable, with its own address, hours, delivery areas, menus, team, and payout account. Add a kitchen from your Kitchens page, then work through its setup checklist. The video above walks through adding a kitchen, finishing its checklist, and deleting it.

Your Kitchens page lists every location in up to three groups: Inactive kitchens (not live on any channel), Active kitchens (taking orders on at least one channel), and Deactivated kitchens (paused at your request).

Adding a new kitchen

1. Go to your Kitchens page, under Operations in the menu, and click Add Kitchen.

2. In the Kitchen address field, start typing the address, then pick it from the list of suggestions. The address only counts once you pick a suggestion.

3. Under Kitchen name (optional), enter a name your team will recognize, like “Brooklyn Kitchen.” Customers don’t see it. Without a name, the kitchen shows by its address. If you number your locations, add the number under Store number (optional).

4. If you sort your kitchens into groups, choose one under Kitchen group (optional). A kitchen in a group shares the group’s delivery areas. To start a new group, click Add a kitchen group.

5. Under Two ways to take orders, choose where this kitchen sells: In-house ordering (your own ordering page), The CaterCow marketplace, or both. Both start on, and you can change them later. Then click Continue: Business hours.

6. The kitchen is created, and its Setup checklist opens beside the page on Business hours. A new kitchen starts with every day closed, so open the days you take orders and set their times. Here, Weekdays opens Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 7 PM. See how to set your business hours. Click Continue: Delivery.

7. The Delivery step sets whether customers can pick up here and where the kitchen delivers. A kitchen in a group already has the group’s delivery areas. See delivery areas and fees and offering pickup. Click Continue: Menu.

8. The Menu step lists the menus this kitchen offers. Menus you’ve set up for your whole brand are already offered here. To create another menu, click Add Menu. Click Continue: Team.

9. The Team step shows who covers three areas at this kitchen: Team Admin, Receives Actionable Order Notifications, and Receives Financial Notifications. Click Confirm on each one. If you’re the only person on your account, you confirm all three at once. If an area has nobody, click Assign (see managing your team). Then click Continue: In-house settings.

10. On In-house settings, choose Stripe or Square for how in-house orders are paid. With Stripe, choose the Legal entity for this kitchen, then the Bank account for this kitchen. See what a legal entity is if you’re not sure which to pick. If your kitchen pays for Stable, a Payment step follows, where you add the card for your subscription. Click Continue: Marketplace settings.

11. Marketplace settings already uses the same legal entity and bank account. Under Best contact for orders, choose who drivers call when they arrive. Then click the button at the bottom of the page. Here it says Continue: Menu, because none of this brand’s menus is approved for the marketplace yet.

12. In-house setup is done, so the page says Brooklyn Kitchen is live! Click Go to my kitchens. The new kitchen is listed under Active kitchens, with your other locations.

How multiple kitchens work

  • You can leave the setup checklist at any point with Finish later and come back. An unfinished kitchen waits under Inactive kitchens with a Finish Setup button that opens the next step it still needs. See kitchen health checks for what each step checks.
  • A kitchen in a group shares the group’s delivery areas, and a menu can apply to the whole group, so you don’t set each kitchen up separately. See sharing a menu across kitchens for how menus are shared.
  • Your own ordering page (In-house ordering) can take orders once the checklist is done. The CaterCow marketplace also needs a menu we’ve approved and a bank account verified with Stripe.

Why a step can stay open for the marketplace

Each order channel has its own requirements, and the top of the kitchen’s page shows a status for each one. In-house can take orders once its steps are done. Marketplace also needs a menu that CaterCow has approved for the marketplace and a bank account verified with Stripe. Until both are in place, Marketplace shows Setting up, and the Menu or Marketplace settings step stays open, even after you save it. The checklist says why under the step, for example No marketplace menu available or Verify business with Stripe. See verifying your identity with Stripe for the bank side, and what happens after you apply for the marketplace review.

Deactivating or deleting a kitchen

On your Kitchens page, click the kitchen’s name, then open its Kitchen information step. The Deactivate or delete this kitchen box is at the bottom.

  • Deactivate hides the kitchen from search and stops new orders. Its settings, hours, and stats are kept. To turn it back on, click Manage kitchen on its row under Deactivated kitchens, then click Reactivate.
  • Delete removes the kitchen and its settings, hours, and team roles. Deleting can’t be undone.

Either way, we’ll ask you to confirm first, with Deactivate Kitchen or Delete Kitchen. Any pending orders at that kitchen still need to be fulfilled.

If a teammate’s access is limited to just that kitchen, you’ll need to change their access on your Team page before you can delete it.

Who can add or remove kitchens

Admins on your account can add, deactivate, and delete kitchens. An admin for a single kitchen group can add kitchens only within that group. Other roles can view kitchens, and managers can edit them. See what each role on your team can do.
